Kunena 6.3.0 released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 6.3.0 [K 6.3.0] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 4.4.x/5.0.x/5.1.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 6.3

This category contains miscellaneous, uncategorised user contributions, (templates, modules, plugins and hacks) relating to older versions of Kunena that are no longer supported.

The topics in this category are for historical interest only. Owing to the structural changes that occurred in K 1.7, many of the ideas in these topics will not work with later versions and, for that reason, the topics are locked.

Question [Merged topic] How to reorder columns, reposition or remove some data elements on Kunena templates

Are there any guidelines or tutorials about how to modify a Kunena 1.6
template?

I (nearly) know how to change colors and fonts etc, but I want to make
changes to the layout--all simplifications. E.g. re-order columns, remove
data (views, karma, avatars, emoticons, lots of stats, who's on line, and other
cluttery paraphernalia). Initially I want to strip a ton of features out,
with the possibility of re-instating one or two later.

Does it involve changing PHP scripts? (Couldn't see any guideline comments
in there, tho'.)

AFAIK there is no existing template that has a very simple, uncluttered,
'classic' look to it. Of course many are nice--but not what I'm hoping for.

Many thanks and regards,

Rick

Rick,

I suggest you take a look at the templates folder inside of Kunena. Yes changes you want to make require php changes, as Joomla and Kunena use php as the template engine. However since K1.6 most to all of the underlying logic code has been seperated from the template. I would recommend starting with default template. There is no comprehensive 'How To' article at the moment, but our wiki contains various pages about templates and how to modify portions of them.

Hope this helps!

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)

Thanks very much, fxstein, for your reply,

I checked the blog, but there did not seem to be anything there on
this subject. Maybe I looked in the wrong place?

Just now I'm thinking/hoping that if I can successfully make one
modification, then maybe it will be relatively easy to make further
mods. So for a specific example: if anyone can provide any hints as
to how move the 'reply count' Replies column to where the 'view count'
Views column currently is (& delete the Views column) that would be
fantastic.

BTW, following your suggestion I found a file: kunena.config.class.php.
Very exciting. Switched
the value for $topicicons from 1 to 0, thinking it might get rid of the
topic icon column. But it does not seem to make any difference. Missing
something again? (This with Kunena version 1.6.1. Enable Debug Mode is
set to Yes, if that makes any difference.)

Thank you for your patience with these novice questions.

Regards,

Rick

Is there a way to change the column order on the Recent Topics and My Topics pages?

I'd like the number of Replies next to number of Views, as it is on the Index.

Thanks,
Geoff

Goodday,

I would like to do some certain changes in my template. Aren't we all?
What I would like is is the following. If you are visiting the frontpage you will have 5 colums.
Icons> forum > topics > reactions > latest post

I would very much like to change the positions from topics and reactions. I want to put it 1 colum and put it on top of each other.

Is it possible for me to do this?

You need to develop a new template. You need to modify the PHP ... somewhere (I'm not a developer and I don't know too much about these things). You should be advised that the changes you make now will not be compatible with the next version of Kunena. If you understand this restriction (and that the responsibility is totally yours if anything breaks afterwards) then you can achieve these things.

Perhaps there is someone in the community who would be willing to help you design a new template for your site (particularly if you were willing to offer payment for their time). Good luck. :)
