This seems to be a never-ending problem. The issue is interrelated with Kunena sessions and Joomla sessions and the fact that, when you use the browser back button, Joomla behaviour is to not perform a page refresh. And there are probably other causes surrounding this baffling mystery.

The problem that we're going to have dealing with your problem, Doug, is the "sometimes" aspect. Does this NEW indicator issue manifest itself only under certain conditions. For example, if you've read a topic and then navigate back to the index, what happens if you then perform a page reload/refresh? Also, is this behaviour confined to a certain web browser(s)?

I think we fixed the issue here at this website but "sometimes" the NEW indicator issue occurs here, for me, too (particularly if I'm using Safari on my iPad.

Hi,

I looked around and while there have been posts about this topic, I cannot seem to find the solution. Is there any way to make the New Posts indicator not reset after the Kunena session expires? I have it set to 6 hours, but if the user starts reading a category, then leaves for a while, and then comes back after the session expires, the posts that used to be marked new are now unmarked, even though they didn't read them.

Is there a setting that will keep a post marked "unread" until the user either reads it or marks a topic read?

I am running Kunena 2.0.4

The behaviour of the NEW indicator was changed in K 3.0. The recommendation of the team is to upgrade to K 3.0 to address these issues.
